Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) were determined and classified as appliances in 1990 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). NVGs are used in navigation, operation and have been a critical tool when it comes to the control and operation of an aircraft during night flight.

As appliances, the NVGs must be able to meet a certain criteria and performance standards plus a required FAA Certification. You can find the complete description and a list of performance standards in document RTCA/DO-275, Minimum Operational Performance Standards for Integrated Night Vision Imaging System Equipment, Oct. 12, 2001 and FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO) for night vision goggles (TSO-C164), Sept. 30, 2004.

Night Flight Concepts owns and operates a FAA approved Part 145 NVG Repair Station (certification #N5ZR113B) which gives them the authority to conduct and certify the air worthiness of the inspections. They are also authorized to remove and replace the parts of NVGs and to complete repairs on night vision imaging systems. Maintenance options include:
