Cockpit Lighting

Aircraft cockpit lighting solutions for night vision vary depending on the vendor and the technology. One can eliminate the illumination of the infrared in many ways: using open ring bezels; adding adjunctive lighting systems, or posting light modification or the modification of the instrument or display. Some methods require that the cockpit's integral illumination be eliminated so that the secondary lighting alternatives will work effectively. Secondary lighting alternatives filter the light source with an NVIS Green filter changing the color to green. If post lights are used, reflective illumination will be provided.

Advancements in NVG lighting technology are ongoing. The traditional NVIS/Green military specification (Mil-Spec) lighting configurations are gone and organizations now refer to the newer standard of NVIS/White.
